The Kate Kennedy Club runs this torch-lit procession, taking place on the eve before May, in remembrance of John Honey.

Honey was a heroic student who, on the 3rd January 1800, risked his life to rescue passengers from a wrecked ship, the Janet of Macduff, off East Sands. Years later, Honey died as a result of complications from his injuries.

The Gaudie remembers Honey’s efforts with the help of thousands of students partaking each year on East Sands pier.

Gaudie 2025 was particularly historic, as it marked the re-opening of the pier, following its closure in November 2023 after suffering storm damages.
